Question

Most of the applications need a least one or two reference letters. I wonder who is supposed to write them for me? My current employer, a sports coach? What kind of information has this reference to contain? About the applicant as a person, as an employee?
Dear Ladies and Gentleman,
Most of the applications need a least one or two reference letters. I wonder who is supposed to write them for me? My current employer, a sports coach? What kind of information has this reference to contain? About the applicant as a person, as an employee?

Thank you very much for your answer.

This changes from school to school. Our website outlines clearly what is required of the referee . They need to complete a referree form which is part of the application form. Here is what it says......

'completed MBA reference forms from at least three referees (at least one of the referees should be someone in a position to judge your academic ability, and at least one should be someone in a position to judge your practical management qualities)'

Hope that helps

Answer from Warwick Business School:

Dear Tom

Thanks for your enquiry. Your two references for the Warwick MBA should be people who have direct knowledge of your intellectual ability and/or your professional skills. If you have left further or higher education within the last 5 years, you should offer one academic reference and one employment-related reference. Otherwise, you should offer two employment-related references. References from personal friends or relatives are not acceptable. We are looking for information about your strengths and weaknesses as a person, your intellectual and academic ability, your competence in English, and ask the reference to rate you on various skills (e.g. creativity, analytical ability, time management).

I hope that this answers your questions. For more information about the Warwick MBA, please go to www.wbs.ac.uk.

Answer from Cranfield:

Dear Tom

At Cranfield we have forms with specific questions and checklists which the referees are required to complete. These can be found in the application form which is available on-line or can be downloaded from our web site: www.cranfield.ac.uk/som/mba.

We ask for one business and one academic referee. The business referee should normally be your current employer.

Answer from Said Business School:

Dear Tom

Thank you for your e-mail. Yes, we ask for two references, normally from your current and a past employer, or, alternatively, you can supply an academic reference. Please visit www.sbs.ox.ac.uk /mba/apply/application forms where you can see the content of the reference forms. Please let me know if you need any further information.

Best wishes

Answer from Manchester Business School:

Dear Tom,

Thank you for your e-mail. At Manchester Business School we require two references. One should be your current employer, the second should ideally be an academic reference. Our application form has a section of questions which you send to your referees , they complete it and return to us.

Kind Regards
