1. What does it mean to you to have been selected as a "Global Leader for Tomorrow"?

I'm excited to be sharing experiences and ideas with such a wide array of people. I'd like to use this new role to catalyze more great global work on education and teaching.

2. You have been selected by the World Economic Forum for what you have already done in your life, "holding positions of considerable power, influence and responsability". What are the 3-5 things you are most proud of?

Being father to my 2-year old daughter; publishing books on generational, racial and cultural politics that have spurred many people to rethink their identities and their place in the world; helping direct the Clinton White House's policies on education, gun control, crime; writing President Clinton's speech to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of D-Day at Normandy in 1994.

3. The World Economic Forum is "committed to improving improve the state of the world". You will participate in shaping tomorrow's world. What impact would you like to have?

I want to contribute to the world by giving greater public voice to more people, through writing, politics and technology.

4. The World Economic Forum is also a forum to discuss the present state of the world economy. What is the analysis you would give?

More susceptible than ever to psychological and financial cascade effects, the world economy is still in an awkward and turbulent adolescence.

Vice President
RealNetworks

Nationality: USA

Born: 1968

Professional Profile: RealNetworks. Serve in corporate and operating executive roles at pioneering Internet media firm. Responsible now for building online communities among the 230 million global registered users of RealPlayer. Joined as VP communications, was promoted into operating role a year later. 2000-present

Personal Profile: Eric is amazing - a quick glance at his resume shows just how much he's accomplished and contributed in a short time, including deputy director of the White House domestic policy council, vice president at a multi-billion dollar .com, and author of one book and editor of another - each book geared towards understanding the world, and creating bridges across groups that typically don't understand each other. (His NEXT: Young American Writers on the New Generation is a virtual manifesto representing global leaders of tomorrow!)
What's more, Eric is one of the most genial, constructive people I've ever met, full of ideas but short on ego. Yet he is entirely comfortable finding a voice in public and for the public - indeed, he was for four years a noted on-camera contributor and online columnist for MSNBC. He has shown talent as a business leader, has survived a top national political job with flying colors, and has a clear commitment to the public interest and to finding a voice for a young generation
